Relativity as a Theory of Two Connections
We show in this paper that it is possible to formulate General Relativity in a phase space coordinatized by two SO(3) connections. We analyze first the Husain-Kuchař model and find a two connection description for it. Introducing a suitable scalar constraint in this phase space we get a Hamiltonian formulation of gravity that is close to the Ashtekar one, from which it is derived, but has some ...
متن کاملGeneral Relativity as a constrained Gauge Theory
The formulation of General Relativity presented in [1] and the Hamiltonian formulation of Gauge theories described in [2] are made to interact. The resulting scheme allows to see General Relativity as a constrained Gauge theory. Mathematics Subject Classification: 70S05, 70S15, 81T13
متن کاملOn the general relativity theory
In Appendix III of the fifth edition of his book Space, Time, Matter [15] henceforth cited as W (which has not been translated into English), Hermann Weyl derived for the first time, motivated by cosmological considerations, the general frequency shift formula for sources and observers moving arbitrarily in a general spacetime. In his discussion of cosmology (W, 39) he argued for a non-stationa...
متن کاملMeasurement Theory and General Relativity
The theory of measurement is employed to elucidate the physical basis of general relativity. For measurements involving phenomena with intrinsic length or time scales, such scales must in general be negligible compared to the (translational and rotational) scales characteristic of the motion of the observer. Thus general relativity is a consistent theory of coincidences so long as these involve...
